A new universal (or combination woodworking machines) from the italian manufacturer cema. a universal should be considered by anyone new to woodworking or where space in the workshop is going to be a big issue. these compact machines offer the same range of functions as several individual machines but take up less space and cost considerably less too. This entry level machine has some impressive features including the use of two separate motors to power different functions, with fully interlocking switches to enable fast and safe changes between functions. being fully manufactured in europe the build quality is high using extruded aluminium for the planing, thicknessing and sliding carriage beds. the two induction motors are controlled by a single switch to select the required function, plus start/stop buttons located at each end of the machine, thus no belt changes are ever required. The table saw function has a sturdy quick-action locking fence, a tilt arbor facility from 0 to 45 degrees and a lever lock blade height adjustment. for crosscutting the sliding carriage is brought into use which has a long work support fence with adjustable angle settings /- 45 degrees, a supplementary worktable (320mm x 350mm), a screw thread work clamp, and a smooth carriage action guided by 6 bearings. The spindle moulder is mounted on the same axis as the table saw and so also tilts from 0 to 45 degrees. the spindle accepts standard cutterblocks and features a screw thread rise & fall. the guard has fully adjustable independent fences with a 100mm dust extraction outlet and full guarding. The more powerful of the two motors, as big as you can run with a standard 13amp configuration, runs the planing cutterblock. the 3 knife block, a feature usually only found on industrial machines, runs at 6500 rpm and produces an excellent fine finish. the long aluminium fence tilts to 45 degrees. for thicknessing operations a dust hood with a 100mm diameter outlet is fitted over the cutterblock and the planing hood removed. the thicknessing bed is supported by a single column and easily adjusted with the handwheel. supplied with 24 tooth tct circular sawblade3 x hss planing knives100mm dust adapter, adjustable rubber feet, cable & plug.
